Frequently Asked Questions

Admission and Registration

Patients are admitted to the hospital by one of two ways: One is to be admitted through the Emergency Department. Secondly, you may be admitted to the hospital by your physician.

For specifics concerning your “new patient appointment” with a physician, you should contact that particular doctor’s office prior to your first visit. Admission to the hospital is a decision made by your physician. Please visit our Inpatient Care page for more information.

Admissions is located in the front lobby of HRMC which faces Carolina Ave.

Billing, Insurance & Medicare

HRMC accepts most insurances including Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield and others. In some cases your insurance will pay in full for the services you receive, but in many cases your insurance will only pay part of your hospital bill.

During registration you will be informed of any deposit, deductible or co-insurance that is expected at time of service.

Your plan may have special requirements, such as a second opinion or pre-certification for certain tests or procedures. It is your responsibility to make sure the requirements of your plan have been met. If your plan requirements are not followed, you may be financially responsible for all or part of the services rendered in the hospital. Some physician specialists may not participate in your health care plan, and their services may not be covered.

Visit the The Business Office and Billing Department page for more information or contact the Business Office at (803) 943-1210 or (803) 943-1213.

Medical Records

A Medical Record provides documentary evidence of a patient’s course of care received at HRMC. The medical record is property of the hospital. Medical Records are sent to the ordering medical department upon completion of services received.

Personal Medical Records are released in accordance with state and federal laws. There is a fee of 65 cents per page and 50 cents every page after 30 pages. The fee is waived if records have been requested by your physician. For more information, the Health Information Management (HIM) Department may be reached by phone: 803-943-1265, fax: 803-943-1242 or by visiting the Medical Records page.

All volunteers must first be screened, interviewed, and oriented to the Hospital before they begin assignments. To find out about volunteer opportunities, please call the Human Resources Director at 803-943-1252 to request an application.
