Hampton Regional Medical Center to Participate in National Guard Ardent Sentry Exercise

VARNVILLE, SC (May 13, 2013) - Hampton Regional Medical Center (HRMC) will be participating in a decontamination drill on Saturday, May 18 from 1-4 p.m. as part of the National Guard Ardent Sentry Exercise. HRMC staff as well as members of the South Carolina National Guard and local Police, Fire and EMS, will be on-site at the hospital conducting various exercises throughout the drill.

During the decontamination drill, individuals seeking medical attention will still be able to access HRMC. The hospital and its access roads will remain open to the public.

"We want to make sure that residents are aware that the hospital will remain open during the disaster drill, and they should not hesitate to come to the hospital if they are in need of medical care," said Dave Hamill, CEO and President of Hampton Regional Medical Center. "We have ensured that drill efforts will not compromise patient care in any way."

Information gathered from the exercise will be implemented into the National Guard and Hampton County Emergency Management Protocols. The exercise is designed to specifically test the Guard's ability to provide supplies, security, decontamination, and medical resources in the event of a disaster or crisis situation.

"We feel fortunate to take part in this statewide safety effort," said Hamill. "This will give our physicians and clinical staff an opportunity to practice our emergency and disaster measures in order to provide the highest health and safety practices in the event of an emergency."
