Hampton Regional Medical Center and its marketing director Michelle Strickland were recently awarded for excellence in health care marketing and communications.

The Carolinas Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society presented hospitals and health care organizations throughout the Carolinas with awards for marketing excellence during the association’s annual conference held Nov. 20 at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Ashville, N.C.

HRMC won this award for its 2024 breast cancer awareness campaign utilizing Dr. Brittany Dobson, MUSC Radiologist, and the HRMC Mammography team in a series of videos.

"To be honored among the best in Healthcare in the Carolinas is quite humbling," said Strickland. "This year we can see the Hampton Regional name being listed alongside among some of the biggest in the industry. But what we lack in size, we make up in tenacity. I know for me, seeing what others in the industry are doing only makes me more driven to keep us relevant in the ever changing digital landscape. I’m thankful that leadership supports these efforts and sees the value marketing brings to our brand as we expand and grow as an organization."

Held under the theme Rise Above, this year’s conference also honored the remarkable resilience of Western North Carolina one year after the devastating storms that impacted the region, stated a release from the healthcare marketing society. With inspiring stories of resilience, compelling videos and innovative digital media content, more than 35 organizations earned Wallie and Golden Tusk Awards for outstanding marketing, public relations and communications.

Awards were presented in more than a dozen categories, including web design, blog/vlog, social media, special event materials, writing, video, publications and TV advertising.A panel of experienced marketing and communications professionals from around the country selected the winners through a comprehensive judging system that reviews entries from idea inception to the results generated.

“This year’s Wallie and Golden Tusk award winners embody the best of today’s health care marketing and communications through innovation, storytelling and a results-driven approach,” said Andy Lyons, president of the Carolinas Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society in the release. “At the heart of every winning entry was a powerful narrative. Congratulations to all of this year’s Wallie and Golden Tusk award winners for excellence in helping lead the way in the field of health care marketing and communications.”UNC Health earned the top award, Best of Show, for an inspiring video detailing how its teammates came together to serve in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which ravaged the mountains of North Carolina in 2024.
