HAMPTON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER WINS ZERO HARM AWARD FOR COMMITMENT TO PATIENT SAFETY AMID COVID-19 PANDEMIC

(Varnville, South Carolina - November, 2021) -- Hampton Regional is proud to be recognized for winning several 2021 Zero Harm Awards for eliminating medical errors and creating a culture of high reliability throughout our facility by the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA). Hampton Regional is one of eight hospitals who were awarded the new Zero Harm Excellence Award, given in recognition of an elite commitment to adopting a systems-level approach to excellence and zero harm based on a demanding SCHA-designed points system. Despite the challenges of a global pandemic, which continues to put stress on staffing and equipment, Hampton Regional continues to rise to the challenge of putting patient safety first.
SCHA launched their Zero Harm Awards in 2014 as an effort to recognize South Carolina hospitals that were on the forefront of preventing medical errors, which by some estimates is the third leading cause of death in the United States, with an economic impact that could reach 1 trillion dollars annually.

"As medical errors and other types of harm continue to be a major concern across the country, South Carolina has developed a blueprint for reducing avoidable harm in our healthcare facilities that other states can follow."

This year 58 hospitals won 223 Zero Harm Awards for their commitment to delivering highly reliable care. These awards represent 314,414 patient days without harm with a projected savings of $5.72 million dollars.
