Admission and Registration


How do I get admitted to the hospital?


  • Patients are admitted to the hospital by one of two ways: One is to be admitted through the Emergency Department. Secondly, you may be admitted to the hospital by your physician.

Will I be admitted to the hospital for tests or surgery on the day of my first visit?

  • For specifics concerning your "new patient appointment" with a physician, you should contact that particular doctor's office prior to your first visit. Admission to the hospital is a decision made by your physician. Please visit our Inpatient Care page for more information.

  • Admissions is located in the front lobby of HRMC which faces Carolina Ave.

Billing, Insurance & Medicare


What insurances does HRMC accept?


  • HRMC accepts most insurances including Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield and others. In some cases your insurance will pay in full for the services you receive, but in many cases your insurance will only pay part of your hospital bill.

If I have insurance, will I be expected to pay a down payment upon registration?


  • During registration you will be informed of any deposit, deductible or co-insurance that is expected at time of service.

Does HRMC take Medicare HMOs?


  • Your plan may have special requirements, such as a second opinion or pre-certification for certain tests or procedures. It is your responsibility to make sure the requirements of your plan have been met. If your plan requirements are not followed, you may be financially responsible for all or part of the services rendered in the hospital. Some physician specialists may not participate in your health care plan, and their services may not be covered.

Medical Records


What is a Medical Record?


  • A Medical Record provides documentary evidence of a patient's course of care received at HRMC. The medical record is property of the hospital. Medical Records are sent to the ordering medical department upon completion of services received.

How do I get a copy of my Medical Record?


  • Personal Medical Records are released in accordance with state and federal laws. There is a fee of 65 cents per page and 50 cents every page after 30 pages. The fee is waived if records have been requested by your physician.   • HRMC supports and participates in numerous community events and programs throughout the year. These events and programs include the Relay for Life, The Watermelon Festival, Hampton County Seniors, Chamber of Commerce sponsored events and several more. How can I volunteer?


  • Volunteers are an integral part of our care team. They assist in patients and visitors by providing directions, assisting disabled when coming into the hospital and greeting visitors. All volunteers must first be screened, interviewed, and oriented to the Hospital before they begin assignments. To find out about volunteer opportunities, please call the Human Resources Director at 803-943-1252 to request an application.

Why does HRMC not provide me extensive information about patients receiving healthcare services, even if they are a relative or friend of mine?


  • HRMC is subject to State and Federal guidelines regarding the protection of patient privacy. We value the right of the patient to have his or her healthcare information to remain confidential. Patients may have the right to release specific information to specific individuals in certain instances. These arrangements must be made through the patient or the patient's legal advocate.
