The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

About The DAISY Foundation

Established in 2000, The DAISY Foundation is an international organization established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 from complications of the autoimmune disease, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), at the age of 33. In an effort to thank Patrick's nurses for the care he received, his family created an award recognition program to recognize the super-human work performed by nurses.

What is the DAISY Award?

The DAISY Award is a program that honors excellence in nursing and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide each day. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. Hampton Regional Medical Center is proud to be a DAISY Award Hospital Partner, recognizing our nurses for the meaningful difference they make in the lives of others.

Recipients of the DAISY Award receive a:

• DAISY Award signature lapel pin
• Certificate, proclaiming the recipient as an "Extraordinary Nurse"
• Unique, hand-carved stone sculpture, entitled "A Healer's Touch"
• Spotlight page on the DAISY Foundation website
