The Business Office and Billing Department

Working for Patients Behind the Scenes

At HRMC, billing professionals work both behind the scenes and directly with patients. The role of the department is to oversee all patient accounts. The responsibilities include checking the status of insurance coverage, filing and re-filing insurance claims, contacting patients, advising them of their account status, and accurately tracking changes in insurance coverage. The Billing Staff has extensive knowledge in medical terminology, medical coding, and Federal and State regulations governing the privacy of protected health information.

Patient Information:

You should be familiar with the terms of your insurance coverage. Our counselors are available to assist you in determining what your insurance will or will not cover. This will help you understand the hospital's billing procedures and charges. The hospital will bill your insurance carrier, Medicare or Medicaid for you. For all inpatient and outpatient services available at HRMC, financial counselors are available to discuss any questions or issues related to billing, insurance or financial assistance.

If You Are a Member of an HMO or PPO

Your plan may have special requirements, such as a second opinion or pre-certification for certain tests or procedures. It is your responsibility to make sure the requirements of your plan have been met. If your plan's requirements are not followed, you may be financially responsible for all or part of the services rendered in the hospital. Some physician specialists may not participate in your health care plan, and their services may not be covered.

If You Are Covered by Medicare

We need a copy of your Medicare card to verify eligibility and process your Medicare claim. You should be aware that the Medicare program specifically excludes payment for certain items and services. Deductibles and co-payments also are the responsibility of the patient.

If You Are Covered by Medicaid

We need a copy of your Medicaid card to verify eligibility and process your Medicaid claim. Medicaid also has payment limitations on a number of services and items.
