Ultrafast CT Scanning of the Heart

Hampton Regional Medical Center offers heart scans using state-of-the-art high-speed CT imaging that allows dramatic visualizations of the heart from every angle. Using a dye to show contrast, the coronary arteries can be examined for blockage and blood flow. In many cases, this new CT technology will allow coronary images that can make heart catheterization (coronary angiography) unnecessary. HRMC was one of the first hospitals in the state to provide this breakthrough technology.

Hampton Regional's new Toshiba Aquilion 64 Slice CT is fast enough to actually capture a heartbeat and perform multiple cardiac exams at once. This CT can visualize the smallest arteries in the heart and can be used instead of heart catheterizations.
